After giving it a few days and seeing some of the cooler features stripped, I would like to just go back to the older HUD but keep the better floating icons (FOBs and the ally indicators).
I feel like the bars were okay at first (didn't really give a shit either way) but it quickly becomes annoying when you start using more than one class, your status just kind of stops meaning anything because low hp could mean a full UNION's worth of health or a 1 shot from a stunstick.
The hotbar is atrocious, first impressions were great because I didn't have to fumble with my M4A1 to get to my AK47, but that quickly turned into me being COMPLETELY UNABLE to sort through my weapons when I had an enemy in front of me as I spawned, which happens a lot in this game. I've also noticed it takes a moment between you selecting the weapon and actually pulling it out. (I've noticed it because sometimes I'd pull out my AK by spam clicking and shoot a few shots of my M4 before the game switched the weapons.)
The random colors of the squad menu confuse me, I just don't really know why it's a thing and I don't know what they mean, I tend to even forget that I'm in a squad in the first place because of how out of the way the UI is and the fact it disappears while I'm dead just adds to that. This is obviously very minor and something to get used to rather than something to fix.
The current hitmarkers are a downgrade from the originals, the kill hitmarker is ESSENTIAL. Well over half the times I have to glance at the killfeed to confirm I actually killed my target, which is not fun to do when holding a chokepoint.
The killfeed is strange, I think it's upside-down from the original maybe? It's hard to tell at a glance who just killed who and when. All of us follow very similar name formats which compounds the upside-down problem. It also neglects to show what you used to kill a person, which again makes it even harder to tell if you were the one who just took someone down. (Which loops back to the previous bullet point about confirming kills. Gameplay took a severe hit in "enjoyability" since the update because of this point alone.)
Another minor nitpick is the point capture interpolation is too fast and "bouncy", the bar should react linearly if it's to be interpolated, instead it accelerates rapidly and then decelerates once it reaches its real point which just looks awkward!
Those are all my main complaints about this updated UI, I really tried giving it enough time to get used to it to form a proper opinion on it.
I believe we should've not been so reactionary with changes to this UI, we should've played to it's strengths and not strip away the features that made it so unique, like the low HP effects and that badass armor break effect. I know they were buggy but they were also what really set this UI apart from the previous one, which would've made it a lot easy to swallow this pill.
As it stands right now, it's just a regular ol' UI like the one we used to have but more confusing, at least we have more information with the floating world icons which are a definitive upgrade from the previous buggy ones that barely worked half the damn time. Then again we also have LESS information as well, with the HP bars instead of numbers.
