What is your reason(s) for applying for Gamemaster?

I want to be able to help the server by taking GM tickets, and make the server more enjoyable with some events! I also have many ideas for some MPF Squads specific events I’d like to host. Many of the friends I’ve made on this server are also GM’s, and I’d like to be able to help them with their events if the opportunity ever comes about.

Have you ever been Event Staff or something similar before? If so, list your previous positions.

Honestly, no, but I have a vested and presentable interest in the entertainment and enjoyment of my peers. I have led various campaigns of varying length and complexity as a DnD DM, and I think much of what I've learned about making an enjoyable experience there can be applicable to CvR as well.

Additionally, I’ve been a player in many events in CvR, so I feel as though I have a strong grasp on what will work and what won’t.

Describe how you react to negative feedback, from constructive criticism to borderline harassment.

I will never say no to constructive criticism. People who take the time to tell me how to improve my skills in anything always deserve my respect and attention, and I will be sure that anybody who has something to say will be heard.

If people are harassing me for the sake of being rude, I will just ignore them. If the harassment escalates too far (Doxxing/death threats) I’ll contact affairs, but I’m fairly certain that will never happen.

TL;DR: Haters are my motivators.

While planning a server-wide Event you realized that it would make hosting it much easier if you had another Gamemaster assisting you, and manage to get someone to help. Unfortunately 5 minutes before the Event is scheduled to begin, they messaged you and said they would be absent. How do you proceed?

First, I would attempt to find any other gamemasters who might be able to assist. If I am unsuccessful in finding a replacement, I will closely evaluate the event. If the event's quality would be too drastically affected, I would cancel the event or delay it until I could have somebody help me. Better to have no event than a bad one that crashed and burned because of bad luck.

While planning an Event, you decide to test some of the tools you think would be helpful. You go to the admin room, and start to experiment. Unfortunately, while testing with some NPCs the server crashed. How do you react?

I would immediately clip the action with medal.tv, and I would contact Sentinel, any other relevant members of infrastructure and the head game masters and turn over the clip to them. With any luck the clip could be used to teach others what not to do.

An NCO has finished training a Recruit, but there are no COs or Staff online to provide the whitelist. What do you do?

I would give him the whitelist! No reason to have him sitting around.

While hosting a server-wide Event you have implemented a RP section where players can interact with a computer in order to open a door. Unexpectedly, a CO decides that they would rather that door stay closed (Presumably so that the other side cannot continue), and orders that the computer be destroyed. Given that the door is essential to progressing your event, how do you react?

This is actually something I have always loved about running games, being able to roll with the punches and improvise. I would absolutely allow them to destroy this panel, but perhaps there are other ways to open it? Perhaps it could be brute-forced, or there might be another way around. Engineer/GRID units might be able to try their hand in fixing it! An event with a single set path is something I would generally try to avoid from a design perspective, as well.

While hosting a server-wide Event, a CmD/MAJ decides that they dislike it, and begin to openly attempt to get players to refuse to participate. This reaches the point that there are almost no players participating on one side. How do you resolve the situation?

First, I would attempt to speak to the CmD/Maj and see if I could dissuade him from his current actions by requesting he sit on the sidelines and have him fill out a review of the event on the forums so I can get a strong understanding of the issues he's taken with it. I would also likely just ask "why?" as people with high ranks generally would not behave this way without reason.

If they refuse to stop, I would contact staff to see if they could help out with the event disruption and I would inform their superiors of the behavior. I would also assist their side’s participants if the event has become unbalanced as a result, such as with a vehicle or armor upgrade.

After hosting a server-wide Event, you are in the middle of a post-event Debrief when the COs present tell you to stop hosting your DB so they can host theirs. How do you react?

I would implore the CO to cool their jets, as it’s essential that rewards are effectively distributed, and the event is properly closed. If they insist on being difficult, I would continue with my DB regardless.

What permissions do Gamemasters have, both inside and outside of Events?

Much of this is speculation, so please forgive any mistakes.
Outside of events: Taking crafting tickets, helping with enslavements, PC/LoR office hacking rolls, and whitelisting when there are no staff on.
Inside of events: Anything to do with the event. Modifying player stats and loadouts, spawning props in event areas, etc.

While preparing to host an Event, you notice that there are 3 vehicles deployed, and that the server is lagging a bit because of that. What do you do?

If my event can wait, I would politely ask OVA/Techs to not deploy any additional vehicles, and begin once theirs were destroyed. Otherwise I would ask them to undeploy temporarily.

Describe your design process of Events prior to queuing them.

I’m a firm believer in creating strong intent when creating events for people to enjoy, and ask myself the following questions:

“What is my goal with this event?”

Beyond ‘have fun on server’, I think it’s important to really have a purpose before undertaking any such challenge. Do I intend on improving my propping and creating an immersive experience? Am I putting forth a puzzle to see how they are received? This intention will guide my event’s goals, while keeping in mind the server’s limitations.

“Where is the fun?”

If the fun lies outside of the usual CVR gameplay loop, I would need to ask if I could justify the shift, and if that would be fun for the players.

“What else needs to be planned?”

If I need additional resources, such as the assistance of another GM, or somebody with higher ULX perms than I, I would be careful to mention this and make arrangements in the event queue.

Creativity is a methodical process, just like everything else, and I would incorporate this methodology into my event queueing.

Create three Event ideas and describe them below. Be as detailed as you feel necessary. Originality is appreciated, and a lack of details will be penalized.

Many of my ideas are somewhat basic, so I’m able to be flexible with changes that need to be made on the fly. If this isn’t the best way to go about it, please let me know!

Event 1:
A laboratory of unknown origin has been found equidistant from the Combine and Rebel base. Inside, there are many mysteries that can be investigated, including a hidden scientist (event helper).

The scientist would be coerced into packaging the data he has accumulated, and when he is done, (approximately 10 minutes later), he will give the data (prop) to whichever faction currently has him. The faction will need to bring both the data and the scientist to their base in order to succeed in the event.

Event 2:
A crazed cult in the underground has taken some well-known arms dealers hostage, and are planning to sacrifice them. In a race against time, and the other faction, the cult must be killed, the hostages saved and brought back to base. There will be various roadblocks along the way, such as doors that require a button to be pressed elsewhere.

The event rewards for this would be weapons of their choice, following the GM guidelines.

Event 3:
The squads games. This will be an improved version of the Squad Games that were held approximately a month ago, a type of Olympic contest for members of MPF Squads. (NOT SQUID GAMES)

Expanding on the previous idea, we will host 3 “Challenges” that will award a gold, silver, and bronze medal each.

  1. The trashcan games.
    1. Participants will need to stand behind a red line some distance from a trash can, and attempt to throw as many cans as possible into the can.
  2. Boxing
    1. A bracketed stunstick tournament, in which all members will be set to a standard HP and armor, will be told to strip their perks, and will be thrown into an arena where only the winner survives!
  3. Skeet shooting
    1. Shooters will stand behind a line, and a GM/Me who has been pilled into a bird, will fly in a predictable pattern down-range three times. Winners will be determined by the number of successful hits compared to shots fired.

How often do you think GMs should host events?

I think close to one a week would be sufficient to keep one’s skills sharp, and to maintain activity.

Do you understand and accept the following clause: I will not leak Staff or Gamemaster information, I will not abuse my powers, and I will not break the Gamemaster rules.

Yes, I understand and accept.

Do you understand the basics of using ULX? List what you know.

Honestly, I have never used ULX, but through osmosis I have picked some things up, and of course, I am always trying to learn and improve!
