The End (Of All That Was)

He'd sit on a rock, overlooking a shallow sea long rid of the leeches that used to infest its waters.
Luscious green grass tops the plateau he resides upon, regrown after years of hard work and restoration.

Waves lap on sand and collide with dirt and shallow sediments. A chaotic rhythm that brings peace to the heart of the old gentleman reflecting on his life.
He's glad there is at least some rhythm after all that's happened.
...
When the Combine arrived on Earth, people wondered if their life had ended. Decades of suppression uprooted lives and destroyed families. The Combine were ruthless, methodical, smart, and knew every method to subjugating their extradimensional prize. Humans had the unique trait of being versatile and cunning, so they turned millions into weapons and slaves for their machine. They were mutilated into monsters. Humanity couldn't multiply, they couldn't breed more of their kin to adapt to a life so destroyed by the Xen and Combine in the hopes of rising up and taking back what was theirs.
So they submitted in silence, the last child born post-occupation doesn't even know their mother. Or father. Or their home. Or their name. Or why they're still living. Nobody knew what they were living for, they'd be better off lying down and dying. Maybe even joining the Civil Protection force for better food and for their families to be protected. Why though? What hopes does that family have, the Combine don't promise a better life, they just promise protection and better food, more money, maybe sex if you kill enough dissenters.
Hope was lost.
Until it appeared in a train.
Then they rose up. They remembered why they are alive, why they are human. Humanity broke their shackles and overthrew the Combine, they overthrew the Earth occupation force by gunning them all down and exploiting weaknesses in their loyalty software. Rogue Units shredded through kevlar body armor as the Citadel detonated in a mosaic of green and blue lightning, with advisors fleeing to different parts of the world to regroup and reorganize. However with their nexus destroyed, it was only a matter of time before the hunters were hunted.
Left with a broken world, humanity rebuilt it's society. They destroyed the suppression field that subjugated them, they repurposed Combine armor and weaponry in the hopes of defending their world against their invaders should they ever come back. Cities were reborn, and Earth unified into one single society, one single government, brought together by a common goal of survival and harmony.
They prospered.
Now fifty years later, and the veterans of the war have mostly passed away or have forgotten their experiences. They enshrined their memories onto placards and statues, much like the "One Free Man" monolith in the center of the Earth capital city, New Geneva. His crowbar gleaming a symbol of hope and resiliance.
A facility in north America remains preserved and stagnant, decaying and dilapidated as its chambers lie unoccupied and untested. Their manager, or well overlord, in an effective hibernation. It is the last remnant of pre-war humanity and innovation, and what could have been the Combine's saving grace if they had ever broken through the autonomous defenses.
...
The Combine, or more formally, the UU (Universal Union) would never make an attempt to come back to Earth or the dimension it resided in.
In fact, the loss of Earth was the final straw that broke the camels back.
Millenia spent ruling over countless galaxies and worlds expended and exhausted the resources of the UU. With the scale of the Universe being so vast, a revolution could occur and nobody in the empire would know for years. It was hard to tell where exactly the UU ended in terms of control, because so many galaxies were conquered that it was assumed all of it was UU territory. In reality, the UU were far smaller than they seemed, a shadow of control cast from a small outcropping in the center of a galaxy superstructure.
When Earth was lost, the advisors that escaped were executed. The Council of their home planet-some of the most intelligent beings in respects to the rest of their universe-fractured.
One camp detested the Earthly occupation.
Another supported it and called for its liberation.
Another called for the outright dissolution of the Union as a whole.
That latter camp in particular splintered off from the Union and engaged in a bloody, brutal, drawn out civil war that united countless galaxies against their occupiers. The UU is still engaged in total warfare, their intra and extra-universal territories falling one by one...
All because of the One Free Man.
Or so the rumors in their universe went.
...
The last veteran of the war overlooks an ocean, and in his hands a memoir, and a prediction, enscribed on parchment and contained in a bottle.
The man on the rock gets off, and lies on the grass.
He passes away, in peace.
The bottle lies on the ground, still and without motion, for years and years after his death. It is buried, washed away, lost to the Earth. As the lands change, the bottle is broken, and the parchment embedded in mud and soil.
It wasn't until thousands and thousands of years later, a robotic land surveyor and its partner discover it, scan it, and send it to their sadistic overlord in a facility located in a forgotten land...
It reads the following:
...

This should serve as my final goodbye to a server that has shaped my life in ways only a profoundly unique and degenerative Gmod community could. You people, new and old, are the memories that shape the early part of my teen years, and the memories of those that have played the server. From joining once, to staying, to becoming an LVET CO, defecting to the Combine, becoming a DvL, leaving, coming back, leaving again, coming back again, and so forth; you people are what shaped the man I am today.
I'm 19 now, and looking back 4 or 5 years ago and seeing the community I was apart of, I get hit with a massive sense of nostalgia. I nearly cried the other day watching my memories on the server, the shitty mass deployments and the horrible, horrible atrocities in City 13.
I have to go, I cannot bear to watch a major part of my life wither away and be left in the dust. I need to move on. I have big goals, as I am now a collegiate athlete competing for a third national title. Lots of motion.
Sentinel, I know you read these as they're posted.
Thank you.
For everything.
You have my Discord (kennymccormick1933), reach out whenever. Same applies to everyone else that may be reading this, since I already have your email addresses >:).
Sincerely,
Taylon "Kenny McCormick."

I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful memories we've created together in this community. Each smile, each laugh, and every shared moment has woven a tapestry of connection that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. While it’s hard to part ways, let’s cherish the friendships we've built and the support we've given each other.

Bro is speaking pure facts, my teen gaming years on pc were mostly filled with CVR. I know exactly how he feels, loosing a part of himself that he can only look back on and smile whilst reminiscing.
