The Trek. (1/5)

Alone. In the wilderness. Not an animal to be heard. Wind, rare, blows gently in the cold air. Frost lines the bark of the trees freezing dead wood over, creating a rotten forest of brown icicles.

I finally have a place to put my thoughts again. Sick.
I didn't imagine it would be this way. Trekking through miles of mountainous terrain with barely any food to keep me sane and moving. I went from one meal a day to barely half, and with the way the trees are, all frozen and dead, bark isn't even an option. Not like it'd be a good one anyways.
As for my bearings, I'm in Colorado...maybe. I can’t exactly tell anymore since my map is from the fifties. I took it from a cabin in the woods, along with some food and this journal. Hello! Sorry if I stole your stuff, I had to. Not like you’d be back any time soon sooo yeah.
Regardless, I need a place to stay. I need somewhere I can sleep and not worry about whatever new apex predator is after me. I forget what they’re called, “cream pie” or something stupid like that. For those of you reading, if this is the last thing you see, assume I’m dead or I used the rest of the pages for my campfire. Or they’ve been ripped out by the evil spirits that haunt us ooohhoohhhh.
This is Jackson “The Wall” Kinkade-Rodriguez.
Alone in a sea of newfound stars.
P.s: don’t read the proposal draft at the beginning of the book. It’s super sad.

...
He’d place the book in his bag, and after a little while of walking, would assemble a makeshift tent in a divot under a frozen “tree.” After a while of shivering in his thick blanket, he’d fall asleep…
The night sky would glisten in a tapestry of stars, as the light pollution from the nearby city of Aspen would be snuffed out. Reduced to nothing more than a dark shell of a city, with the endless running of ski trams the only sign that life had ever populated this place. Meaningfully, of course.
The tapestry of stars above would be centered by the Moon.
Its shattered remains floating above. A signal that the powers-to-be are beginning their harvest, barely half a year after they usurped the throne from humanity.
