Previous Punishments?
I've been warned once for ripcording back in early February on the start of DEFN Main when I was still new. It's been 5 months since then. What's your reason for becoming Gamemaster?
Once upon a time I did want to become a GM, a while ago. Since then, that interest has dropped quite a bit, but recently it's been rising back up again. Since the interest is rising again for me, I think that its time to give it a second shot at becoming a GM, now that I understand a lot more about events and I understand what its like to be a GM. I've also been convinced to apply for this spot from a fellow GM, which was the final push to get me to start writing this application. Now with my interest sparked, I figured it's time to become a GM, or at least try to do so. Not to mention on top of all of this, I have some really good friends on the GM team and I would like to work along side them. Have you ever been Event Staff or anything similar on other servers? If so please list below.
One thing that hasn't changed since my last application is that I haven't been any sort of event staff. But like I mentioned before, I did host some events when I was a normal admin for a DarkRP server a while back. So if that counts for anything, then I guess yeah. However, I have been around for a while and I believe I have what it takes to become a GM. Explain how you take criticism from other people, from constructive to border-line harassment.
Criticism has always been something I could take from people. Often times I've been able to improve drastically from what other people explained was great, and wasn't so great. I'm also aware in most cases, it will come off as borderline harassment. Like I stated in my last application though, I was an admin for a DarkRP server. I've gotten used to people harassing me because they didn't like a certain action I committed. Nearly every day I experienced some form of harassment, so I believe I'm able to take it very well. And if it does get to a point where it's too much, I could always tell other staff. However, I can't see any sequence of events that would lead me to talking to other staff about this, considering like I mentioned before. I have been put through a lot of harassment, so I know how to deal with it. If the criticism isn't harassment, or border-line, I'd ask the person to elaborate on their criticism and give me some details on how I could've improved the event, or what I could've done better in general. A Combine CmD has openly expressed their distaste for an event you're doing at that moment. It has gotten to the point where he is actively disrupting your event. What is your course of action?
I would TP to the CmD and kindly ask him to save his criticism of the event until it is over. If he stops, then great. Situation solved. If he continues, I would PM him as a final warning to save it and stop. Again, if he stops, then great. The situation is solved. However, the most likely result of this would be that he continues and I'd just mute him until the event is over or I'd ask someone else to deal with it in staff chat while I continue the event. If he manages to continues to try and interrupt the event from there, I would just have him be banned until the event is over, since it's possible he can sabotage the event. A Resistance Fighter starts PMing you with some questions about a recent event you've done. However, because you were AFK, he has started harassing you. What is your course of action?
I would read everything that the Resistance Fighter PM'd me with first, and from there I would answer his questions if I could find them in the chat still. If I can't find the questions, I would ask him politely to ask them again, and explain that I was AFK and wasn't there to see it. If he continues to be hostile, I'd ask him to calm down a little bit and I'd ask why he's upset. If he continues to harass me, I'd either just start to ignore it, or like I mentioned earlier. I would ask another staff to deal with it, since I'm not allowed to use my powers outside of an event. What are GM's permissions both inside and outside of events?
GMs are very, very restricted on their permissions. GMs are only allowed to use their powers within an event. They're able to set health, armor, teleport, use god mode, etc. Outside of events, it is punishable to use ANY of their powers. Even something as simple as taking a sit to pull someone out of a wall isn't okay. EVEN IF they are the only staff on capable of dealing with the situation, they still are not allowed to use their powers. You are hosting an important Post-Event DB and all of a sudden, the CO's ask you to leave so they can do their DB and exclude yours. What is your course of action?
I would let the CO host their DB, and tell them that I will return once it's over. Until then, I'd go to the other side and host the post event DB if another GM isn't already hosting it, or they aren't hosting a DB of their own. Once the original side is done with their DB, I will return and resume with the post-event DB. If I'm hosting the post event DB for the other side (Lets just say the combine side while resistance host their normal db), I would return once I finish hosting the post-event DB on the combine side. A Gamemaster who said he would be assisting you in an event later on today hasn't shown up and now the event is running behind schedule. What should you do?
First, I would contact the GM on discord, and ask what's going on. Depending on the scale of the event, I'd either cancel the event if it was a big event multiple GM's planned to host, or I'd post pone it a little bit to see if the GM ever shows up. If the event is on the smaller scale, I'd see if I could host it by myself. If I couldn't host the event alone, I would cancel and post pone the event for another day, or until the GM gets online. If I get a PM on discord from the GM who was going to help stating they wouldn't be able to come, or that they were going to be late, I'd also post pone the event for another day. After getting a green light on an event, you notice there are 3 vehicles deployed at once. It is causing a little lag, what is your course of action?
Once I log on and test the waters and find the lag, I'd look to see if there is anything else causing lag. If I find anything else that can be causing it, I'd see if I could avoid asking to despawn one of the vehicles for the event. If I can't, and my request to despawn one of the vehicles gets denied, I would wait until the one or two of the vehicles gets destroyed, and I would begin setting the event up from there, while putting up a request that neither side spawns a vehicle. If my event requires a vehicle, or multiple vehicles, I would do the same process as I stated earlier. On top of that, I would also see if there are props that can be causing the lag, and I would ask for the Engineers/GRIDs to get rid of their props for the event, to minimize the lag. What's the process GM's take before making events, from start to finish. (This is what YOU think)
Theres a lot of things to the process from what I'm aware. I know that some events are planned, and take a lot of time to iron out. For big events, I think that multiple GMs plan for a certain day that they all can get on for. I'd say probably 3 GMs or more for a big event. Once the event is all ironed out, and everyone agrees, and they get the green light for the event, they all log on and test the waters of the server. If the server is too laggy, they likely reschedule the event for another day. If the server is doing fine, they put up a ulx poll and ask if they want an event. If the majority votes yes, they begin setting up the event, whatever it may be. Once the event is over, they log the event (I'm pretty sure GM's have to do that anyways), and host the post event DB.
For smaller events, this will likely be a lot more brief as the process is likely a lot smoother than setting up a big planned event. For a smaller event, they likely just iron out a small event (Lets just say an attack/defense event), and they possibly get one other GM online. They put up a ULX poll and see if the community wants an event. If they do, then they set up the event just like if they were to set it up before hand. Most events like this usually don't need multiple GMs, but obviously getting another GM to help with an event would be nice. From there, once the event is hosted, they host the post event DB and thats that. A Resistance Captain is openly criticizing your event when he isn't in the event itself. It has gotten to the point where he is interrupting your important adverts relating to the event. What should you do?
I would ask the Captain to save their criticism until the event is over, or tell them to stay out of it if they aren't participating in the event itself. If they keep going despite me asking them to stop I would ask another staff to deal with them while I continue my event. If he continues, the likely result is that he gets muted. And like with the Combine CmD, if they try to interrupt the event, the result will likely be the same. How often do you think GM's should host events?
I've always had this viewpoint on events that they should be special, and not always happening. If an event happens once a day or even twice a day, it could very easily over saturate the server and ruin what makes events special or even raise the bars and expectations of what an event should be. So with that being said, I think 3-4 events a week or an event every 2-3 days would be the perfect amount. Any less than that could also lead to a problem of the game just getting repetitive and boring, so doing an event every 2-3 days would be perfect. Also, if the events are hosted as frequently as I mentioned, it makes them a little harder to get stale. List three events that you might do if you get accepted (DETAILED AND BE ORIGINAL) [Campaigns and RP Situations are EXCLUDED]
1.) Ol' Wild West
After a data breach, and a combine spy has managed to steal a vital piece of intel regarding plans the rebels had to attack the combine base to gain access to new weaponry. A rebel spy has managed to disable combine equipment, and they've been forced to fall back on old weaponry. Revolvers and bolt action rifles. Both spies ended up being captured, and are being held hostage. Both the Resistance and Combine forces are looking for ways to retrieve their spies. Intel of where they've been hidden state that both spies are hidden in the sewers. Basically, the event is a wild west themed capture the flag event. It would take place in the sewers. Both teams would have to capture their respective spy that got captured, and keep them on their side for 3 minutes to win. Both teams would receive the R700 and the .44 Magnum (Or whatever it's called in this weapon pack), and that's the only weapon they're able to use. Not many props would likely be used in this event, I'd say the max required is 10-15 or so. This event would probably need 2 GMs at most. Reward would likely be a random weapon's crate (if a high ranking GM is on to give it) to the winning team. If not that, then a special vehicle or something similar.
2.) Football/Soccer
No lore idea behind this event, but I'm sticking by this from my last application because I have yet to see someone do this event. It's exactly what it sounds like. Combine vs Rebels in a soccer match. Everyone gets godmode for the event, and they play a match of soccer. First team to 10 wins. Rules of the event would include: No gravity gun, no shooting each other (not that it would matter considering everyone is in god mode). After building an area for this (most likely in the small town next to the tree lines), we'd spawn a roller mine and let both teams play the match of soccer. If the ball goes out of bounds, the opposite team receives the ball and continues from there. The GMs will keep score of the event, and the winning team will receive a vehicle. MACEs and SU are not allowed to use their cloaks/disguise kits to keep the match fair. This would likely require multiple GMs and many props. I'd say 2-3 GMs are needed for this just because of the prop limit. Maybe even 4 depending on how many people participate in the event, and how big we need to make the soccer arena.
3.) Dodgeball
It's exactly what it sounds like. It's a match of dodgeball. Everyone goes civilians and the GMs set up an arena to play dodgeball in. I would host multiple rounds of this, doing 2 teams, 3 teams, 4 teams, and even free for all. There likely wouldn't be any sort of reward for this type of event, just purely for fun. Once the arena is built and the teams are set up, I'd give everyone a gravity gun and once everyone receives the gravity gun, I'd begin spawning the dodge balls which more than likely will be props. There will probably be 5-10 dodgeballs to make things slightly less hectic, and to cause a little less lag than using rollermines for example. Once the round is over, I'd move onto making teams of 3, and continue doing that from there. Everyone's guns weapons would stripped too, just incase people went anarchist and attempted to cheat the event and shoot people. This event wouldn't likely need many GMs, probably 1 would suffice, however 2 would be optimal for the event since we need to set up an arena and have props to use for the dodgeballs to kill each other with.
Do you understand and accept the following clause: I will not leak staff information in gamemaster channels or otherwise. I will not abuse my powers in-game or otherwise. I must add [DEFN] to my steam username as soon as I get accepted.
Yes, I'm aware of the punishment I will receive for leaking staff information, and I am aware that I need to change my steam name if this gets accepted. Do you understand the basics of ULX? (If so, list basic commands below)
Yes, I used to be staff for a DarkRP server, like I mentioned.
+1 After talking with him he shows competency to become a fine gm
-Knows how to take criticism and not push the problem more
-Has good ideas and even the bad ones with a little bit of thought could become great events
I personally think he would make an amazing addition to the GM Team
+1 a few criticisms however, the soccer event is not a 2-3 gm event you could do that solo. There are unblacklisted massive props you can use. You could probably solo it if you are carful with props. As for the dodgeball all of those props flying could cause some serious lag so be carful.
