Ive spoken with several high ranking engineers, and it looks like the only thing you get for ranking up is the chore of doing tryouts, and the ability to boss low ranking engineers around. Are there any classes which get new weapons/abilities when they rank up? This whole rank system seems really dated...
I mean materially? No you don't really get much other than a 30hp boost and 1 carry weight boost from the CO whitelists (Excluding DvL, OL, and LShip whitelists), with a few IC exceptions that certain subdivisions might have. If you don't intend on becoming a CO then that is essentially all you get, as a lot of the differences come down to responsibilities. I see it kind of like "giving back" to the server.
Ranks are more so to show your dedication to a certain subdivision, if you really like it you can grind to be a CO and help out the subdivision, hell maybe even be a major role in changing things how stuff are done within the subdivision
And yeah CvR turns from a fun game to a 9 to 5 job where half the time you deal with braindead people, and sometimes have to deal with Sentinel having schizo moments
It's like life yknow, going from teenage times to adulthood speedrun kind of deal
well if you become an OL co you get to bully kena and pray on his downfall and hire people to stage a coup to takeover OL then once OL is ours we take over leadership and make the resistance great again (excomming antonio)
The point of ranking up is that the server is (for the most part) Player run, especially in regard to the Factions. Progressing through the ranks is how you can contribute to the Subdivision, Division, Faction, and Server. The higher you go the more responsibility you have, but you also gain influence and can make decisions to change the server for the better. Creating new systems, ideas, and carrying on the torch. Some may consider it a burden but it is a privilege to be able to say you can make an impact on something. Every single IC rank started as a lowly 09 Union or PVT Fighter from Planetary Commander to Leader of the Resistance. You form friendships, build the community, gain valuable skills, impart knowledge and experience, and you may even enjoy being a leader.
Ultimately, ranks are what you make of them, but the potential is nearly as endless as your imagination.
