***Sitting on a stool, he takes his little pen out of his pocket and begins to write a memoir of the past.***

Before I joined the rebels in Sector 61 , I had crossed and lived in Bavaria alone for some time years ago, wandering through numerous empty villages and hiding multiple times, trying to evade militia and aerial patrols. Some remnants of the 7-hour war along my path often made me think that all our struggle had been in vain. I could have stayed in this new world that the Union was planning to build in Paris, but in the end, I always preferred to die as a traitor rather than as a slave.

One evening, I had found a quiet spot in the forest. There was no noise, only the crackling of the small fire I had made, and distant sounds of something I couldn't determine. I had a portable radio with an antenna at that moment, but no one had transmitted anything since the end of the war, and yet... I had made the right choice to turn it on that night.

Unkown : Hello...Hello...? This is Tier-Siranima for ESOC...do you copy...hello.*
Yacine: Hello...I hear you...can you hear me?
Unknown: Affirmative...it's been 1 month since we heard anything...what's happening?
Yacine: Uhm...Where are you...I'm currently north of Pondorf.
Unknown: Wait...are you the space control center?
Yacine: No...I'm currently a survivor of the war...I'm trying to reach the east.
Unknown: A war?...you mean...a world war...good Lord!...that explains why the world has turned dark.
Yacine: What do you mean, dark?...where are you right now?
Unknown: I'm in orbit on the Siranima 3 space station...we lost communication a month ago after the entire globe experienced some kind of blackout...we are currently on a different frequency...the command center is not responding anymore.
Yacine: From space?...good Lord...how did you survive?
Unknown: We're on the oxygen reserve...equipment is failing one by one, and we're running out of resources...we have approximately 4 days of autonomy left...no resupply has been made.
Yacine: I'm sorry...but the world has fallen...a force from elsewhere plunged the world into war...a few hours were enough to lose...I believe...I believe there's no way to save you.
Unknown: ........That explains the situation better...we saw the lights go out one by one and an unusual change in the atmosphere.
Yacine: I'm truly sorry...there's no way for you to come back.
Unknown: Without help from Earth...I believe we're doomed here.
Yacine: I...I don't know what else to say to you...
Unknown: We...we hear you poorly...the Earth is rotating...the si...gnal is fadin......
Yacine: Hello?
Unknown: ...........................................................................
Yacine: ......May God keep you, Siranima.

I looked up at the sky...dying and accepting death in complete emptiness without violence was preferable to what had become death on Earth. This event had allowed me to understand that the world deserved better than to die in the turmoil of a new world that was, in reality, the tomb of our humanity. I packed up my belongings the next day and continued my journey to Eastern Europe. I never regret what I have become today, and I simply hope to never again, find myself in a situation where helping someone in distress is impossible.

***He closed his book, got up from his stool, and then went to lie down on his mattress in the common dormitory of the base. Before closing his eyes, he reached for his Dragunov and placed it beside him.***
