What is your reason(s) for applying for Gamemaster?

My reason for applying to Gamemaster is, quite honestly, because of the lack of activity I have perceived. I could be wrong, but whenever I am on and people need a GM, they are never there. I figured I would apply to help solve the problem myself. I've also had an interest in the position since it was first opened years ago, since I like getting creative when I can to try and figure out things that people will like. It's always nice to mix up the gameplay a little bit.

Have you ever been Event Staff or something similar before? If so, list your previous positions.

I have never been Event Staff, but I have been Admin on this server before.

Describe how you react to negative feedback, from constructive criticism to borderline harassment.

Well, I appreciate constructive criticism much more than I appreciate compliments, because I find criticism to be more useful and productive, especially when presented in a respectful manner. I am completely use to harassment and the like, so I can brush off most things like that relatively easily, but I wouldn't lie if I said I did not ever get hurt or angry by it, I just won't do anything about it.

While planning a server-wide Event you realized that it would make hosting it much easier if you had another Gamemaster assisting you, and manage to get someone to help. Unfortunately 5 minutes before the Event is scheduled to begin, they messaged you and said they would be absent. How do you proceed?

First, I would check if I could get another Gamemaster to help, but if not, I would have to make it work. If doing it myself would cause problems to the server or make the event unenjoyable, I might have to cancel the event. A bad event would make for a much more negative experience for players than a canceled one.

While planning an Event, you decide to test some of the tools you think would be helpful. You go to the admin room, and start to experiment. Unfortunately, while testing with some NPCs the server crashed. How do you react?

I would immediately use my recording software to clip the last five minutes and report what happened to higher-ups and management. After that, I would apologize for crashing the server to the community after everybody rejoins.

An NCO has finished training a Recruit, but there are no COs or Staff online to provide the whitelist. What do you do?

I would give the whitelist to the Recruit.

While hosting a server-wide Event you have implemented a RP section where players can interact with a computer in order to open a door. Unexpectedly, a CO decides that they would rather that door stay closed (Presumably so that the other side cannot continue), and orders that the computer be destroyed. Given that the door is essential to progressing your event, how do you react?

I would quickly react to the CO's decision by allowing the other side to regain access, such a fallen tree allowing them to climb over into the area or even punishing the offending side by saying the computer was crucial and that the immediate area would explode (probably hyperbolic but the idea is there).

While hosting a server-wide Event, a CmD/MAJ decides that they dislike it, and begin to openly attempt to get players to refuse to participate. This reaches the point that there are almost no players participating on one side. How do you resolve the situation?

If talking to them to try and sort out the problems doesn't work, I would have to talk their higher-ups and possibly even staff to resolve the situation.

After hosting a server-wide Event, you are in the middle of a post-event Debrief when the COs present tell you to stop hosting your DB so they can host theirs. How do you react?

I would tell the COs that I needed to finish and I would make the DB quicker so they could get on with theirs.

What permissions do Gamemasters have, both inside and outside of Events?

Outside of an event, a Gamemaster is responsible for actions such as scrapping vehicles, crafting for engineers and GRIDs, and the like. Inside of an event, a Gamemaster can do pretty much anything to an extent (Spawn stuff, modify players with consent, and the like).

While preparing to host an Event, you notice that there are 3 vehicles deployed, and that the server is lagging a bit because of that. What do you do?

I would not begin the Event until the 3 vehicles were undeployed, whether they were destroyed or scrapped. Hopefully it would be scrapped if I were to ask, but if not, I could just wait.

Describe your design process of Events prior to queuing them.

The first thing I do is to think of a cool or unique RP scenario, and then think about a gameplay element that could be designed around it. After the idea is concrete, I would mess around with it in singleplayer to make sure that it is workable, and then check in with other Gamemasters to get their input and testing. The final steps would be to get it approved and scheduled.

Create three Event ideas and describe them below. Be as detailed as you feel necessary. Originality is appreciated, and a lack of details will be penalized.

1. Offworld Assignment

On cvr_outlands2_defn, an important Combine figure has been handed the ever dreaded "offworld assignment". However, in order to teleport the Combine officer to the Combine Overworld, they are going to need some altitude. The Combine have set up an FOB with the teleportation equipment on top of the G mountain, but the Rebels want to stop them. The teleportation process takes around 10 minutes, so the time window for the Rebels to intervene is small, but workable. The teleportation chamber is indestructible, meaning the officer inside cannot be killed, but the Rebels can sabotage the system if they hold the point for 1 minute. If they manage it, the FOB explodes, destroying it and the officer inside, successfully stopping the teleportation. If they fail and the teleportation succeeds, the officer will surely call for backup from the Overworld...

2. Rollermine Maze

With full disclosure, this is based off of something I had seen on the server from years ago. This is more light-hearted and not based on RP at all, and is more of a minigame. There are two groups of participants. The Rollermines, which are the minority, are tasked with killing everybody in the maze before they escape. The people in the maze, the majority, have to escape the maze without getting killed by the Rollermines. I would have built this maze beforehand, making it decently hard, but not impossible. If none of the people escape, the Rollermines win and get to stay as Rollermines in the server (colored differently and not belonging to either faction). If any person escapes the maze, the Rollermines lose, but only the people that escape get to become Rollermines themselves to be in the normal game (Again, colored differently and not belonging to either faction).

3. Anarchist Creation

In City 13, the anarchists have managed to construct part of a tank in the courtyard, but are missing some crucial parts. Each faction has to bring their own set of parts hidden around the map in order to complete the tank. Since these parts are faction specific, this means that each faction can find the parts for the other faction and defend them from being taken by said faction, or they could decide to strictly go after their own. Each side will have to strategize, organize, and distribute troops effectively in order to gain full control of the tank for use in battle and make sure the other side does not. On top of just the Rebels and the Combine, anarchist factions can go after either side's parts, disrupting the process and potentially ending in them being in control of the tank. For obvious reasons, neither faction would be allowed to deploy vehicles.

How often do you think GMs should host events?

Major events that require DBs and extensive planning should not occur more often than every few days, otherwise they become cumbersome to not only the GMs, but also the playerbase. Smaller events such as the Rollermine Maze could happen once or even twice a day, depending on how disruptive they are.
