Affairs a department in CVR that has been dead, and there is absolutely nothing inside of it there is an app that ARTI sent and they have done nothing even after a bump still no word, honestly at this point reform it or prove to me it doing something because it does nothing it just people who sit there doing nothing I spoke to other people and they almost have the same opinion as me and I feel like the only hope for Affairs it to completely reform HR. I honestly hope an affairs staff responds to this denying everything IM saying, saying that there active and there still deciding (after months). This seems like a crazy rant but it really limited to the few people who might want to apply.
Affairs usually do stuff that are not public usually, so the general public won't really notice their activity. They also mostly work inside discord and not really ingame, another reason why noone really notices them. And with the same logic, you could apply that to infrastructure too. They also take really long to recruit applicants. Also affairs and infrastructure applicants are not as important as staff applicants, even if that hurts to know.
Edit: btw just saying the things I say are from my personal view and not fact.
Reform us how? There is not much work for us to do in the first place, as we have little need to be here, but when we do perform our roles then we can be active as anyone.
As Serry said, a lot of our work is also private. We do not publicise cases that we work on for obvious reasons.
I'll be blunt in my opinion, Affairs if what I can correctly remember is to handle disagreements and arguments within CvR between players, staff, etc. I just don't see the need of affairs at this current stage, if a player has a problem with someone they either make a warn/ban report, contact a staff member, or contact a CO. Affairs doesn't have a lot of work because it simply isn't really needed. It is why it is seen and sometimes IS super inactive. Now I can't see what you guys do behind the curtains but, a lot of the player base just feels affairs is useless.
I don't think the playerbase's perception of Affairs is a particularly good reason to disband it.
Affairs handles some out-of-game stuff, like player disagreements and some functions such as the Community Meeting. If nothing else, Affair's responsibility is to be a completely removed step away from a factional resolution to interpersonal problems, which Ember and Osprey act as if only because they are so far removed from the server. The department should continue to exist even if for no other reason than simply as an escalation point beyond in-character COs/High Command, which players can rely on if those individuals fail at their jobs.
If ya want to know what Affairs can actually do to people, they're allowed to initiate community bans. Not limited to just that either, but there's your extreme example.
It seems your entire post is based off of one application to become affairs hasn't been responded to.
Affairs do stuff for sure, now who is supposed to be dealing with those is the real question you should be asking. Especially with how long it takes to get an answer.
I mean essentially;
- Affairs still has a purpose regardless of whether we are publically aware of them fulfilling it or not
After all, like stated here, most if not all cases Affairs handles are handled privately so 99.9% of the time you won't even know that they're doing stuff regardless of whether they are or not
- Affairs isn't used (afaik) as often as it could be
Affairs in my experience with them so far seem to be the last resort that people go to for whatever reason, they'll go to the person they have the problem with, they'll go to the staff team, hell I've even had iirc one instance where they've contacted Sent and he's pointed them to Affairs instead - so underutilisation could also play a factor into why they aren't seen very much
Though one, and I think it is a valid criticism of the current system, repeated experience I've had so far is that whenever people have gone to affairs it is usually when X CO has done Y to Z. Z initiates a case, but X CO has all the valid reasoning and purpose to have done Y to Z, so affairs essentially goes 'hey... oh wait this is perfectly legit' and so nothing changes.
Tl;dr Affairs does have a purpose which necessitates it to stick around, and its activity isn't easily gauged by non-management/affairs/staff etc. (Idek myself). Although the underutilisation & incorrect utilisation (cases like the one I mentioned above wherein it's a closed case from the very beginning) likely do not help make it a busy department.
