1x FailRP warn by Badaim What is your reason(s) for applying for Gamemaster?
I'd like an arena where I can indulge my creativity while simultaneously creating some memorable fun for others, helping to break up the monotony. Have you ever been Event Staff or something similar before? If so, list your previous positions.
I was a GM on a VietnamRP server in 2020. Describe how you react to negative feedback, from constructive criticism to borderline harassment.
I like to think any and all criticism, no matter how eloquent or boorish, is valid and has some nugget of truth. As long as I can identify the core issue somebody had with my event, I can assess it and learn. I don't care much if somebody acts like a cunt behind closed doors, as long as they aren't doing it on the server or in the public discords to avoid a mob mentality. While planning a server-wide Event you realized that it would make hosting it much easier if you had another Gamemaster assisting you, and manage to get someone to help. Unfortunately 5 minutes before the Event is scheduled to begin, they messaged you and said they would be absent. How do you proceed?
The people can afford to wait out a ten minute delay while I gather my bearings. I'd see if I can rope in another GM to come help; even if it's short notice, I can't imagine any elements of my events would be so complex that a trained GM couldn't understand them after a brief explanation.
If I'm alone and can't get a substitute, it'd depend on the scale of the event. I think in most cases, I can solo it as the extra GM was never meant to be essential. I'm not a fan of delaying events unless due to IRL reasons.
If for whatever reason I deem my event to be some magnum opus that can't possibly be sullied, then I'd just have to delay it. While planning an Event, you decide to test some of the tools you think would be helpful. You go to the admin room, and start to experiment. Unfortunately, while testing with some NPCs the server crashed. How do you react?
Inform Sentinel in an appropriate channel about the server crash and what may have caused it. An NCO has finished training a Recruit, but there are no COs or Staff online to provide the whitelist. What do you do?
NCOs should be able to whitelist recruits these days. If they do need help in any case, then I'd lend it to them. While hosting a server-wide Event you have implemented a RP section where players can interact with a computer in order to open a door. Unexpectedly, a CO decides that they would rather that door stay closed (Presumably so that the other side cannot continue), and orders that the computer be destroyed. Given that the door is essential to progressing your event, how do you react?
I see crab mentality as a valid way of playing out an event and I wouldn't see it as deliberate sabotage. I'd let the CO carry out an order and then inform the other team of the new circumstances, nudging them to perform RP of their own to sort this out. Perhaps they could use explosives or have their techies execute some sort of bypass. While hosting a server-wide Event, a CmD/MAJ decides that they dislike it, and begin to openly attempt to get players to refuse to participate. This reaches the point that there are almost no players participating on one side. How do you resolve the situation?
I'd let the event and protest play out without intervention, noting down the names of the people actively disrupting the event and gathering screenshots/footage. After it's finished, I'd pass my notes along to my higher-ups and get ready for the inevitable discussion I'll get dragged into. After hosting a server-wide Event, you are in the middle of a post-event Debrief when the COs present tell you to stop hosting your DB so they can host theirs. How do you react?
Tell them to grow up. What permissions do Gamemasters have, both inside and outside of Events?
Inside events, gamemasters have more or less complete authority so long as their actions can be reasonably justified as necessary or beneficial to the event. This includes enforcing the rules if it's relevant. If the event is approved by management, gamemasters can even temporarily abolish server rules as per rule A8.
Outside of events, gamemasters have permission to facilitate roleplay with their abilities, either at their own volition or at the request of a player, so long as it doesn't disrupt the standard gameplay loop. While preparing to host an Event, you notice that there are 3 vehicles deployed, and that the server is lagging a bit because of that. What do you do?
Ask them politely to scrap their vehicles just before the event starts. Describe your design process of Events prior to queuing them.
I'd start out by looking around the map for underutilized areas as they're fresh. Maybe some part of the map reminds me of a movie scene, or maybe it reminds me of some faction/group of people. Get some ideas flowing and write them down no matter how shit they are. I can usually start drawing out possibilities from there and staging it in my mind. At that point, I just need to figure out how to utilize the tools at my disposal like ULX and Wiremod to achieve my vision. I might find out along the way that whatever I had planned isn't feasible and have to swap it out for another idea.
Create three Event ideas and describe them below. Be as detailed as you feel necessary. Originality is appreciated, and a lack of details will be penalized.
1. VIP extraction: Less of an event itself, and more a framework; involves an attacking team and defending team. One CO on the defending team is chosen as the VIP and has to survive a set amount of time while the rest protect them and/or disrupt the attackers. The VIP isn't allowed to stay in their own base borders, and are only allowed to enter certain buildings to narrow down the possibilities. The VIP has 1 (one) life, but can be revived within a certain amount of time. Once the time is up, both teams are informed of an extraction point that the VIP has to reach. The defenders win if the VIP successfully waits out the timer and reaches this point. The attackers win if they successfully kill the VIP and their corpse "expires".
Logistic vehicles only, no pushback classes, yadda yadda. Room for any kind of lore spin you want to put on it. Ideal for a smaller pop at 20-40 players. Any more too chaotic.
2. Expeditions: A more tailored event for a handful of players rather than something server-wide. A faction-affiliated scientist from either side sets up shop somewhere in their base and assembles a squad of participants. The squad is briefed on the nature of the expedition (insert any lore to your liking) and gives them a shopping list of artefacts, trinkets, and gizmos that they need to collect, all pre-placed by the GM. Spread across the map and they can tackle them in whatever order they like, and can tap out whenever they want. Compensated accordingly for their time and effort.
Essentially a gallery of set-pieces where I can test out little details in a more controlled environment like puzzles or small Wiremod contraptions. Not meant to be an action-packed event by any means, but a small world-building one.
3. Primordials: Two-part event, first half gives each team a chance to influence the event with roleplay, while the second half is the PvP payoff. A few impartial volunteers are chosen to represent an antediluvian society whose existence is uncovered after an artillery barrage unearths a chasm, and to summon both sides to an intervention. As an unaffiliated third party with a Messiah complex, the beings would like to extend their utter generosity and support a side if they make a convincing case. It's up to each team to decide if they'll accept or reject the shady aid, or perhaps unite against a common enemy... How often do you think GMs should host events?
In a perfect world, the GM team would collectively be hosting an event every (other) day. For an individual GM, I think hosting one every week or week and half is fair. Do you understand and accept the following clause: I will not leak Staff or Gamemaster information, I will not abuse my powers, and I will not break the Gamemaster rules.
Yes, I do. Do you understand the basics of using ULX? List what you know.
I know the basics from staffing on Jailbreak and simply being around staff members on CvR: the commands themselves, the target symbols, and their arguments. If I'm ever in doubt, I'm sure I can find what I need to know by asking or googling.
