Try and figure out what division/s you would want to join and be a part of, it'll matter a lot if you stick with it for a long period of time as your play style would mostly adapt to that class's function or role. Pick a good gun for your class and get comfortable with it, as you play and play you'll make good work with it, not only because of the attachments that you've obtained from killing but because of the familiarity you would have from using it, this can go a long way.
Adapting quickly to big gameplay changes is also a part of getting better, with the removal of shooting while jumping or airborne it's a change that players have to adapt to especially if they relied on it a lot.
This part mostly revolves around what Berd said, but just playing will make you better, you will learn what fights you can't take without your teammates, you will learn routes that you can use to flank, you will adapt to the way people react in gunfights, overall you will improve as you play the game, it just takes time. It took me a while.
