What is your reason(s) for applying for Gamemaster?
I'd like to improve the server experience by running fun RP/lore events, hopefully with some branching player-driven storylines. Also, it'd be nice to not have to ping all online staff every time I want to spawn a car as CWU. Mostly the event storylines thing though.
Have you ever been Event Staff or something similar before? If so, list your previous positions.
Yes, I was an event admin on Bluecolony Reborn briefly, though it didn't go well due to clashes in mindset between myself and the owner, I'm an admin on the CEV Eris, with full perms to run minor "adminbus" events (fuck around as admin in fun ways), and I was a trial moderator with host-level event perms on Foundation 19, though after a six week trial period, life got in the way and I had to drop out. Each of those were on SS13, in GMod I was only ever briefly a trial admin on three servers (Gaminglight, SuperiorServers and Icefuse, if memory serves). I was also an event admin on a few Minecraft servers way back in 2015 or 2016, lord knows the names of said servers are lost to time, however.
Describe how you react to negative feedback, from constructive criticism to borderline harassment.
Well of course I appreciate all constructive feedback, criticism is not negative in any way, I feel, and is not overly applicable, but for the sake of discussion, I always take feedback like that into account to improve future events and situations. In the case of more hostile feedback with no constructive input, there's not much to do but put on a smile and move on, making it clear one is acknowledging the "feedback" and taking it into account. One must then simply move on with their day.
While planning a server-wide Event you realized that it would make hosting it much easier if you had another Gamemaster assisting you, and manage to get someone to help. Unfortunately 5 minutes before the Event is scheduled to begin, they messaged you and said they would be absent. How do you proceed?
I'd see if I can get another GM to participate. Failing that, the show must go on, and I would simply proceed with the event on my own if at all possible. If I am unable to preform the event on my own, while it would be questionable why I would have been planning said event alone in the first place, I would simply reschedule it for a better time, working with the other GM(s) on when that might be.
While planning an Event, you decide to test some of the tools you think would be helpful. You go to the admin room, and start to experiment. Unfortunately, while testing with some NPCs the server crashed. How do you react?
Quickly load into singleplayer and attempt to spawn out the NPCs, reporting the possible cause of the crash to the devs and fellow GMs. If the singleplayer world holds stable, inform them that it may not have been the cause. If it does crash, do not use those NPCs and submit a recording of the second crash to the devs, apologize to the playerbase for the inconvenience, and if authorized by a higher-ranking staff member or GM, compensate them with a master token each as many of them likely lost one-life items such as adrenaline boosts or one-connection items such as XP boosts.
An NCO has finished training a Recruit, but there are no COs or Staff online to provide the whitelist. What do you do?
If able, I would provide basic whitelists (Resistance Fighter or MPF Union) and inform staff. It's not my place to provide higher whitelists, however, and I would not want to push that boundary too hard.
While hosting a server-wide Event you have implemented a RP section where players can interact with a computer in order to open a door. Unexpectedly, a CO decides that they would rather that door stay closed (Presumably so that the other side cannot continue), and orders that the computer be destroyed. Given that the door is essential to progressing your event, how do you react?
IAO. Perhaps the other side could use explosives to breach the door, or some other means could be used to bypass the need for the computer. The CO is welcome to destroy the computer, however, and the show shall go on.
While hosting a server-wide Event, a CmD/MAJ decides that they dislike it, and begin to openly attempt to get players to refuse to participate. This reaches the point that there are almost no players participating on one side. How do you resolve the situation?
Discuss their concerns in PMs while reminding the playerbase that there may be rewards for completing the event. If I feel their concerns are valid, the event could be modified to address them. If not, I suppose only one side is participating until others decide to come join. If there's still a few players on the CmD/MAJ's team participating, I could give them some buffs to level the playing field, I know from experience how fun it can be to practically be a living weapon because your team is getting some GM love. The show must go on, however.
After hosting a server-wide Event, you are in the middle of a post-event Debrief when the COs present tell you to stop hosting your DB so they can host theirs. How do you react?
I'll wrap things up quickly, and perhaps try to "pass the floor" in some way that feels more natural ICly.
What permissions do Gamemasters have, both inside and outside of Events?
Vehicle, NPC, and entity spawns, whitelist control, near-universal whitelist for event use, bring, return, various tools unavailable to GRID/Engis and Trusteds including but not limited to lights and lamps or wiremod chips via adv dupe, and a few others.
While preparing to host an Event, you notice that there are 3 vehicles deployed, and that the server is lagging a bit because of that. What do you do?
While I highly doubt three vehicles are lagging the server, if the vehicles are mine, I can try to compress more people into less vehicles (IE an APC can carry far more people than a car) or finish the vehicle scenes quickly so I can despawn them.
Describe your design process of Events prior to queuing them.
I just plan out a general storyboard and some lore, create some basic prop designs to work off, and it's honestly mostly improv from there for me. I just start with a basic idea and prep what comes to mind based off that.
Create three Event ideas and describe them below. Be as detailed as you feel necessary. Originality is appreciated, and a lack of details will be penalized.
1. A xenian relic has surfaced in (insert area of the map here), each team must attempt to stabilize and contain the relic as it creates increasingly dangerous waves of chaos sweeping the map. When they approach the relic, however, it becomes more and more agitated, attempting to defend itself from their assault, forcing them to work quickly to contain it, or suffer the consequences. Success may permit their science division to research and benefit from the relic, but doing so would risk invoking further havoc from the chaotic energies within.
2. A combine artillery launcher has begun to malfunction. Rebels can use this to hack it and shell the combine with their own munitions, but the Combine will be trying to regain control of it. In the meantime, it will occasionally shell random parts of the map, causing general disruption. The longer it takes to gain control of the malfunctioning device, the less ammo it will have left afterwards. Alternatively, both sides could leave it alone and let it empty itself out, after which it could be scrapped for resources safely. Further investigation would reveal the malfunction was no accident, but was the work of a third party not connected to the lambda resistance. Rebels can attempt to locate and recruit this outsider, while the Combine would prefer to execute or detain them, but in either case, they would prove to be a valuable asset to whichever side takes hold of them, due to their proficiency in overriding UU technology.
3. During a routine mining operation, members of the CWU broke open an antlion hive. They are now trapped in some defenses they were able to quickly hide within, deep within the caves of the white forest map. As antlions infest the caves around them, the combine must attempt to rescue their lost men lest the knowledge they hold die with them and the resources they were extracting be lost to the UU for good, while the resistance would not only benefit from interrogating CWU personnel and stealing their valuable resources, they have also discovered that a resistance general happened to be in the area at the time, something which they must try to keep secret from the Combine as they rescue their lost operative. Alternatively, each side could work together to more easily clear out the hive, and rescue their lost personnel, but would the Combine take this deal if they knew the value of the Resistance asset?
How often do you think GMs should host events?
However often it is desired by the playerbase. A GM should be able to feel out the mood of the server, and decide whether or not it would benefit from something crazy and chaotic happening.
Do you understand and accept the following clause: I will not leak Staff or Gamemaster information, I will not abuse my powers, and I will not break the Gamemaster rules.
Yes.
Do you understand the basics of using ULX? List what you know. ULX is an administration utility with various chat/console commands including but not limited to kick, ban, mute, whip, slap, group management, whitelisting, slaying, exploding, and more. It is how admins !bring, !return, and preform other vital server functions. It also allows for mapvotes and model changes, among other more fun features. All commands can be run via either chat (!command) or console (ulx command), and args involving a name can be replaced with a part of a name (in which case it will affect everyone with that in their name) or * for everyone, ^ for yourself, or @ for whoever you are looking at. Signature: Gamemaster Supervisor.
+1 Love this guy
Only ick was with the server crashing answer. I don't think testing in single player would yield the same results anyway because of specific server content.
