What is your suggestion? A: Before the end of last year, the server started having issues with player count, I'm not here to discuss this directly as there are people more suited to speak about this, however as a regular player and higher-ranking officer I can't help but throw out my two cents on something Ive been thinking about regarding server accessibility. A while ago a rule allowing players to use the RF PVT class regardless of VIP status and other classes helped many new and old players with having a middle ground between classes or even their only class(those without VIP). I saw it work well with many players instead of leaving the game because their class isn't suited to the map/player pop/whatever switch to the RF PVT and stay on for a while, since they have some diversity in how they can play on the server. However, player count is still lackluster, and the holidays are over, I know school and stuff is happening, but I see people leaving the community now because of the player count issues, if you want proof a Rebel Lambda Councilmen just self-CKed calling the server not as fun as it used to be.
That's me yapping, what I want to say is that I think it might help if players are allowed to be in 3 divisions instead of 2. My thinking is that "Users" or non-VIPs can now be allowed to have 2 classes/divisions they can join instead of 1, with VIP giving you access to a 3rd class/division plus 4th class(Vortigaunt/LEGIONARE). So for non-VIP players they can have 2 classes/divisions, while VIPs get access to 3 plus the VIP class. I am thinking strictly from an in-game perspective, where I see new players feeling trapped within a single division. I see this with some old players as well, so why limit people when we can't even get the majority of people to stick around? If the RF PVT leniency worked, I think this would help many people re-engage with the server if they had "diversity without paywalls"(something I was told by a new player). While "paywall" is a bad way to describe donations to the server, many players see any extra cost to play(in this case more than one division) as another reason to question why they should play the game in the first place, money talks. If people say we shouldn't stick around for the gameplay since its Gmod but rather the community then we are a sinking ship, our community relies on gameplay existing or CvR isn't CvR, its just another discord group. While we can't drastically change Gmod gameplay, we can add the ability for people to have more interaction with the server ie. its divisions and classes.
I don't mean to sound rude and I do not mean to offend anyone, just expressing some things I've seen, heard and thought of over the past couple months. If this has already been thought of or already considered a scrapped idea let me know and ignore what I said, I just gotta put it out there and not just in discord. I did see conversations talking about the potential for people to have access to all their division classes rather than be assigned a class, however I think it would not benefit as much from having the ability to have 3 classes potentially across 3 divisions. People would still be limited to certain gameplay styles their divisions embody, as well as everyone can use the Fighter class now, so for K.O. they would really only get 1 extra class, R&D and O.L would have this issue as well(only 2 classes) while FH and CB would get 3 or even 5(HECU+LVET) different classes to choose from, not including RF PVT(cue people flocking to FH more than they already are, also Im not super aware of all the combine divisions and classes so Im only speaking about rebel here). So instead if players had access to a 3rd class/division everyone would get the same amount of classes they can choose from like it is now, rather than watch players leave a division so they can have more classes in another.
How would this benefit the server A: Everyone gets to join another division allowing for greater team/class diversity, gets people to come on for tryouts, gives COs the players needed to host things and get experience hosting events/tryouts, divisions with low pop now can grow as people can join more than 2 divisions, new players have fewer restrictions so are more inclined to play longer, helps further connect the community across different divisions and classes, increases interaction with and within the server as people can join more classes/divisions and attend tryouts without leaving favored classes, might be another small piece in helping get activity up since waiting for summer activity every year is not a good idea. Ok my CvR essay is done don't beat me dad

Morpheus and I briefly worked on a plan to address this concern, much in the way you described. We have put a pause on the rollout though, as it would require more CO activity and responsibility than we've seen in the past few months.
COs are in their position for being active, engaged, and committed to their division, faction, and server as a whole, so we expect them to be intrinsically motivated to be active. By constantly rolling out new things to "be active for", we're taking agency away from COs when we believe they are more capable than having their hands held every step of the way. If we were to implement this as a way to stoke activity, it'd simply follow the cycle and collapse when COs feel they no longer have a "reason" to be active, bringing us right back to where we are now.

I get what you are trying to say and I have definitely thought about it but I feel like it wouldn't have the effect you think it would. Wouldn't be bad to look into it but I think people would get bored of it quickly. Glad you made a forum post tho and I hope you will continue to voice your opinions are matters you care about for the server.
