New HUD Discussion

So am I the only one that thinks the new hud is terrible? It's fucked up the placement of tools and weapons from where I am used to them being, it gets stuck whenever I try to quickly switch from tools to tools which prevents you from aiming. And overall I've really only heard bad things about it from other people.

My personal take, it wasn't broken so idk why they decided to "fix" it.

Yeah I agree with you. Visually it's nice, but overall this new HUD is arguably worst than the last one. Health/armor/XP are only bars now so you can't see their exact values, squad system looks nice but is partially covered by the ingame chat, and the new Killfeed doesn't show which weapon was used like it used to.

All of these are the lesser issue for me though, like you said the weapon selection menu that was added sucks in all ways. It's unfamiliar to Gmod/HL2 and makes selecting a specific weapon more difficult than it should be. The previous menu was far more intuitive, with different kinds of guns and misc. tools being kept separate visually and on the keyboard, while this current one just mashes it all together (not to mention it switched what button you have to press on the keyboard to equip it, fucking up your muscle memory). Not to mention that with this new menu, the amount of weapons you have can screw you over. I have to press 9 on my keyboard to equip my pistol, because aside my regular weapons I get the physgun and the toolgun from the Trusted ULX. In my opinion removing the current weapon selection and going back to the stock Gmod is infinitely better than this, this selection menu fucking sucks.
(Edited in, but I just noticed every time you log into the server the order of your weapons in the selection screen changes. It's not even consistent)
(Another edit, the scrolling on the new weapon select menu also breaks toolgun submaterial tool i think)

I hope this doesn't come across as me malding, I genuinely think the server would be in a better place if the HUD changes were reworked, with the removal of the current weapon selection menu taking priority.

Most games don't provide exact values, you don't need exact values. In fact I'd say the server's better off for it. Don't know why this is being harped on so hard.

Having a quarter of your HP bar left means a lot of different things depending on what class you're playing. A quarter of your HP on Sniper means you'll die from a gust of wind, but on EOWR/Sentry/HECU you still have a good chunk of life left.

In games like MW2019 and most shooters that use a bar, exact values aren't needed because everyone has the exact same HP, which isn't the case on CVR.

You should have an idea of your classes max hp already? If you don't, that's a problem lol.

I'd like to hear out your reasoning as to how not showing specific HP/armor values is beneficial to the server. I think allowing people to have an exact notion of how much HP they still have during combat (for the reasons Persistence said, but you misinterpreted) is better than not having it.

Functionality was stripped. How do you expect me to like it when we had a perfectly fine HUD, which looked nice and fit the theme of the server, while giving me BASIC information for everything about my character.

Sure, I DO have an idea of what my classes's max HP is, but I'm still gonna complain about it giving me less information.

I hate to pull out the new player argument, but the hud is very misleading about how close to death you are, and even more for those who haven't played much.

(also, the resources counter looks god awful, but that's a nitpick and probably won't be changed)

I play many classes and use many perks that modify my HP value, no I don't have a fucking clue what my HP is half the time lmao

If everyone here had their way, we'd be stuck in the stone age and using HL2 weapons. That's all I'm saying. Confusedhrug:
