Remove Beta-Works from the pool and replace it with another.

I liked Main Street.
Main Street was fun.
I miss Main Street.
Main Street didn't kill my parents.

While I would like to suggest City24_v2 on the workshop, as it is more of a cwu based city than combine, the map itself would be a bit awkward to decide on how to deploy rebels, and it requires it’s own set of prop packs.

Perhaps there’s a combine style city map that’s a bit sparse? Anyone have any ideas?

For some time i was also thinking about rp_Mk_city17_redux , but I don't know if it's been proposed yet.

alternatively:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...2813050830 (alt. combine map (set literally inside a base lolol))
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...1307357127 (looks pretty massive and open)
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...2936813669 (some buildings are destructible iirc)

All those maps were reviewed.

Bunker (1st) was far too tiny and has no Rebel base. I considered it as an Event map but with the current system those don't exist.
Balkans (2nd) was another possibility for an Event map but it doesn't have a clearly defined Combine/Rebel base, no HL2 theming, and it has significant FPS issues. There's also a snowy one that has less issues, but that one would be even more of a sniper heaven than Forest Apoc is just from some of the sightlines you can get. Of these three, this is the only one that had a possibility of working just off of scale.
Born (3rd) is just tiny.

i imagine sentinel and the gang at a gaggle of computers spending the late hours reviewing maps

I was actually looking into these maps before I saw your post, I downloaded them and flew around checking them out after Kenny had posted them because they looked interesting, and I noticed many of the same issues you had pointed out, but looking at Balkans snowy variant, I feel like the "sniper hell" could be reduced by a constant fog, probably like 3-5x further out/less thick than it is normally is as the weather effect, and its big enough where multiple permaprops for the bases might not be so bad, while in combat they're likely not going to be rendered at all due to the sheer size of the map.

I know my input as it concerns maps is equivalent to nothing, but just an idea to rework betaworks; why not just delete the endless duststorm map entity and instead settle for an immensely small fog render (think Silent Hill or even Blade Runner 2049 and basically setting render.FogStart to a ridiculously low number). I mean at that point just recolor the fog to the hex code of the sand and boom, an actual sandstorm effect without eating all of your frames. I know Sentinel said he is not in the business of map editing anymore, but I think this would be a doable task in hammer.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...2220206773 (A district map in the midst of battle, featuring a Citadel location for the Combine, several alleys with a sewer system)

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...neu+Valley (A valley kinda map with an Outland style, a large city, and a fairly large Combine base)

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...1721363591 (A fairly large coastal map (We've never had a map with a coastal landscape like in HL2), with a second passage to access another part of the map and various points for objectives)

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...1487944164 (A second version of the previous coastal map, but this one is smaller but still reasonable, with a very large lake (I'm throwing ideas, but perhaps combat boats could be a beneficial addition to the server).

I'm not sure if these maps have already been seen by staff

A few variants of i17 were reviewed but mostly the issue is cramped corridors and how easily Rebs would be spawncamped, among other things like most variants making vehicles totally unusable.

Ineu Valley was a solid possibility, but iirc there was basically no Combine base to work with and the maps structure wasn't that great for the campaign system. It was ALSO considered as an event map, but again, we don't have those right now.

Coast(s) I don't remember actually looking at either specifically for event maps and stuff, but I do remember there being quite a few coastal maps and they were all either low skybox (so no vehicles), single-lane, too small, or unsuitable due to having no base areas. Usually multiple of those things.
